Picasso often made use of photography to establish himself as a sculptor. Boisgeloup was the backdrop to many photographs, such as these taken by Brassaï or Picasso himself. 

In 1926, Christian Zervos founded Cahiers d’art, a magazine dedicated to art in all its forms, from the classical and European to the abstract and exotic. It would go on to open its own art gallery in 1934. The publication also wrote about the artists themselves, and issue number 7-10 (Dec. 1935-Jan. 1936) was devoted to Picasso and his most recent work (1930-35). Zervos interviewed Picasso for the piece, which included 18 photos taken by Bernès, Marouteau et Compagnie at Boisgeloup in December 1934.
