Date : 1832 | Medium : Wall paper
Wall paper appeared as a house interior decoration ornament during the 18th century. It supports the development of new decorative standards and mirrors the taste of an upper middle class willing to claim its social status. As for other decorative arts, gothic inspired décor took off in the 1820’s: pinnacles, columns, arcatures and rose windows flourished. The paper pulp is obtained through rags and the colors are painted with a wooden plank. As visible on this wall paper, the textile flock printing technique was widespread during the 19th century. This process requires to print a colored wool powder which give relief to the piece.
