Study for “The Angel, The Insect, The Dancer”

48-000340-02.jpg

This collection of preparatory studies for L'Ange, l'Insecte, la Danseuse comes from a series of 19 drawings which reveal the various stages in the finished sculpture’s design. Initial sketches show the figure in motion, appearing to perform a dance as sections bob and sway. In later drawings, the details have been discarded with and the form simplified. Eventually all that is left is a single ball for the head, two V-shaped wings and a body formed from a jagged central shaft.
