DAVID HOCKNEY NORMANDISM exhibition
As part of the Normandie Impressionniste Festival, the Musée des Beaux-Arts of Rouen is staging an exhibition entitled "David Hockney Normandism", devoted to the British painter David Hockney.
From 22 March to 22 September 2024, you can admire never-before-seen portraits and landscapes by the artist!
The exhibition is in dialogue with the museum's collections, revealing the English artist's attachment to painting on canvas, even though he began to take advantage of the possibilities offered by digital technology in the 1980s.
His proposals are exciting, all the more so when you consider the possible quarrels between the supporters of canvas and those of screens.
Hanging amid a sumptuous collection of Blanche and Renoir, 10 paintings by David Hockney open the doors of his studio to us. Recent landscapes painted in Normandy, where he has been living and working since 2019, are displayed alongside paintings by Claude Monet.
His self-portrait and night landscapes complete the exhibition. In the Moon Room, there are 13 nocturnal iPad drawings and two paintings on canvas, in shades of blue and black, iridescent with the pale or golden reflections of the moon.

The phenomenology of the open air, meteors, wind, reflections, fading horizons, tilting towards the sky, vivid and powerful colours, all speak of the exceptional fertility of Impressionist soil.
Guided tours and hands-on art workshops are available to help you make the most of this free exhibition!
